After Spang, Earl and I were assigned to the Pentagon where we remained for about six years. While we were there, we had a few different jobs and were lucky enough to eventually land ones where we picked up some valuable experience. Both Elvis and Keith wound up at the Pentagon, so we got to see them once more.
During this time, we finished our degrees. Then Earl went to OTS and I separated. When he finished his training, Earl was assigned to Lowry and we've been in Colorado ever since. He was able to string together three assignments within the state (from Lowery to Peterson then to Buckley).
I've had half a dozen jobs since separating, but always as a system administrator. Right before the big crash of 2000, I took a job with a dot com startup (yikes). Somehow, my company survived the implosion. Around this same time, Earl came up for his last assignment which was back where he started -- Offutt.
We knew we wouldn’t want to stay in Nebraska after Earl's assignment and didn't want to leave our house. I was also afraid of walking away from my job at a time when unemployment was so high. In the end, Earl went to Offutt while I stayed behind. For the next two years, he managed to come home every couple of months. Just as soon as he'd put in enough time, he retired and came home for good or so we thought.
Earl took a job as a consultant with Oracle and has been traveling quite a bit. But, he really enjoys what he does and is content for the time being.
We love living in Colorado and will probably stay put. We have a couple of very active dogs who we take hiking and camping as much as possible. Earl has dabbled with home brewing and my hobby is photography. All our family is still back east and we make it back once or twice a year. Kim lives close to my dad’s family, Keith near one sister, and Mark near the other. We’ve gotten to see both Kim and Keith during the last few years and hope to see Mark later this year.
We’ve also enjoyed catching up with everyone. Yesterday I mailed notes to a dozen folks who I don’t have e-mail addresses for. So stay tuned as I’m sure we’ll be hearing from some of them soon.
